Detoxification is a term used by alternative therapists to cleanse the body of waste or toxins. Frequently used methods are fasting, hot water baths, clay treatments (on the skin and orally), enemas or intestinal rinses, oil-pulling, detox cures, and supplements.

For all these forms of detoxification, it is scientifically insufficiently substantiated that they work. Most methods of detoxification are harmless, with the exception of methods that detoxify the body with clay or lime, such as gourd or pimba.
