The Pioppi diet is named after a village in southern Italy where a strikingly large number of inhabitants are aged ninety years or older. Diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer's hardly ever occur there. Why is this the case? The Pioppi lifestyle focuses on healthy eating, exercise, sufficient sleep and social contact. Products recommended in the diet are olive oil and coconut oil (healthy fats) but also whole milk products, unprocessed meat and fish products, vegetables, eggs, certain fruits, dark chocolate, red wine (one glass a day), coffee, tea and water.
